His Eminence Chogye Shabdrung Rinpoche is the grand nephew of His Eminence The Late Chogye Trichen Rinpoche. He was born in 1981 at Kuzhang House in Zhigatse, Tibet and remained there until the age of 15 where he went through his primary education.
At the age of 16, he was enthroned as Chogye Shabdrung and the heir of Chogye lineage at Nalendra monastery in Tibet. After the enthronement, he was sent to Dzongsar and Ngor colleges of Tibet where he studied Buddhist philosophy for two years.
At the age of 18 he left Tibet for Nepal where his grand uncle His Eminence Chogye Trichen Rinpoche was residing. He learned all the rituals of the monastery under the guidance of His Eminence, and received many transmissions, empowerments and important teachings from him, and also from many other respected masters like His Holiness The Sakya Trizin and His Eminence Luding Khenchen Rinpoche.
At the age of 20, he received the Upasaka and Shramanera (Novice Monk) vows from His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at the holy shrine of Bodhgaya in India and at the age of 21 received the fully ordained monk (Bikkshu) vow from His Eminence Chogye Trichen Rinpoche. He had also conducted various retreats of deities like Vajrapani, White Manjushri and Mahavairocana.
Presently, he is studying at the Sakya College, an institution for higher Buddhist studies, at Dehradun in India.
